Apply for Free Studies in Finland – Vocational Qualification in Restaurant and Catering Services or Mechanical Engineering at Vamia in August 2023

Vamia, located in Finland, is now accepting applications for free vocational qualifications in Restaurant and Catering Services (Cook and Waiter/Waitress) and Mechanical Engineering and Production Technology (Machinist and Plater-welder) for studies beginning in August 2023. The application period is open from January 9th to January 27th, 2023. To be eligible, applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a qualification equivalent to Finnish basic education, as well as good physical condition and sufficient funds for living expenses. Application Period:

• Rolling admissions for the Vocational Qualification in Restaurant and Catering Services and Mechanical Engineering and Production Technology programs at Vamia for studies beginning in August 2023.
• Application period is from January 9th at 09:00 AM EET to January 27th at 03:00 PM EET.
• Vamia reserves the right to end the application period early if they meet their quota of applicants.

• Vocational Qualification in Restaurant and Catering Services (Cook and Waiter/Waitress)
• Vocational Qualification in Mechanical Engineering and Production Technology (Machinist and Plater-welder)

Application Process:

• Application is made through an online portal and the link will be provided when the applying starts.
• Information on applying, requirements, and curriculum can be found on Vamia’s website.
• The admissions decisions will be made by the end of March 2023.
• Applicants must provide proof of English language proficiency through the Duolingo test (85 points minimum) or the IELTS test (5.5 band minimum).

Entry Requirements:

• Nationality: all nationalities can apply to the programs.
• Age: at least 18 years old when studies start. There is no upper age limit.
• Qualification is equivalent to Finnish basic Education of nine years.
• Verified copies of certificates (translated into English, Finnish or Swedish).
• Certificate of the international English test.
• Enough funds for living expenses.
• Good physical condition to study and work.

English Language Test:

• Every applicant must provide ONE of the following English test scores:
  • Mechanical fitter, Machinist, or Plater-welder: Certificate of the international English test Duolingo (85 points minimum).
  • Cook and Waiter/Waitress: Certificate of the international English test Duolingo (85 points minimum) OR IELTS English language test (5.5 band minimum).

Application Procedure:

• A link to the application will be provided when the application is on.
• The application period is organized twice a year, in January and in August.
• Only one program can be applied.
• Fill out the application form accurately and upload all required documents.
• Decision results will be announced approximately 1-2 months after the application period is closed.

Admission and Beginning of Studies:

• Selected applicants will receive an admission letter with information about health documents and how to apply for a resident permit.
• Begin to apply for a residence permit immediately, as the process can take months in some countries.
• Approximately 2 months before the studies begin, new students will receive an e-mail about the start of their studies.
• Visit a doctor in your home country to get the health documents that are required.
• Before coming to Finland, send the results of laboratory tests, X-ray of lungs, and doctors’ statements to the School Nurse.
• Arrive in Finland well in time before the studies begin.
• The first week will include orientation studies and practical information about the school.
• The school will provide the new students with appropriate uniforms for kitchen and restaurant work/mechanical work.
• For students in Restaurant and Catering Services, the following test is obligatory and will be taken in Vaasa: Salmonella.
