Firefighters rushed to a pre-dawn blaze, a fire at a vacant house was extinguished and nobody was injured. Overall, the response by Pennsauken crews could be considered a success.
There’s just one thing: Did they have to break two windows on an illegally-parked car to douse the fire?
“This person made the conscious decision to park in front of the fire hydrant. Windows can be replaced; people cannot,” Pennsauken fire Chief Jospeh Palumbo said.

Absolutely Yes, the driver has total disregard for the safety of others

Absolutely as a Firefighter we only have a limited amount of water on the trucks. The water not only puts the fire out but is also used to protect us. Knowing first how you get a really sick feeling in your stomach when you run out of water. I personally think if people knew that their car would also be used for extrication practice at the end of a call for doing this they would think twice. And if a firefighter or person got injured or died due the direct result of parking in front and blocking it. The owner should be prosecuted accordingly.

You need a 5″ connection to feed the truck before the guys on the other end exhaust the on board tank. You can’t kink a line to go around the car, makes sense to me.
Dominic Petrosino says
If a vehicle is parked In front of a fire hydrant firefighters have every right to break car windows to get the hose through.

Putting water on the fire quickly is the most definitive action fire crews can take at a fire. That means a water supply is needed forthwith. There is a reason it’s against the law to park in front of a hydrant 🙄
