Shorkot is a city of Jhang district. The city is famous for the tombs of Sufis, Sultan Bahu Shah, Mehmood Ghazi (also known as “Ghazi Pir”) and Syed Mahboob Alam Shah Gilani. The tomb of Syed Mehboob Alam Shah Gilani is the centre of the town. He was sent to the Shorkot by the Mughal Emperor Shah Alam to spread Islam. The notable places in Shorkot are Bhirr, Maan Baap and the third largest airbase in Pakistan called the Sarfraz Rafiqi Airbase named after a well-known pilot, Sarfraz Rafiqui, Squardarn Leader, a recipient of both the Hilal-i-Jurat and Sitara-i- Jurat. Bhirr is the historical castle covering some acres of land, with a 200 feet high tower located near Shorkot. The original settlements were the part of the old Indus Valley Civilization. This mound’s surface has three layers of soot showing that it has been destroyed three times. The Chenab River once lived near it but later moved away to the west.

Punjab College Shorkot has been established in the city and is located on the Cantonment Road about 1 km away from Tehsil Chowk Shorkot. It will be a land mark “Educational Project” in this area as the bridge on River Chenab is on its final stage. The land ear marked for the college campus is two acres. It has separate boys and girls sections with independent entrances. It houses, air conditioned class rooms, state-of-the art laboratories and a well stocked library. Sports and co-curricular activities will be as important as academic studies on the campus because we want to groom the students on modern lives.
